چکیده

Synthesis of mitotic spindle proteins is probably one of the normal preparations for division in higher cells (Mazia, 1961). Not so clear, however, is the situation in early embryonic development. The most widely accepted point of view, based upon several independent lines of evidence, is that the unfertilized egg contains a store of preformed spindle precursors, and that the controlling process is assembly, rather than biosynthetic elaboration, of the working mitotic apparatus (MA). The evidence is very thoroughly reviewed in Mazia's monograph (1961). Protein synthesis begins in sea urchin eggs immediately after fertilization (Nakano and Mon-

Caspase Cleavage Motifs of Influenza Subtypes Proteins: Alternations May Switch Viral Pathogenicity

Background and Aims: The caspases are unique proteases that mediate the host cell apoptosis during viral infection. In this study, we identified the caspase cleavage motifs of H5N1 and H9N2 influenza viruses isolated during 1998-2012. Materials and Methods: Amino acid sequences of the eleven proteins encoded by the viruses as the caspase substrates downloaded from NCBI. The caspase cleavage mot...

Completion of the First Meiotic Division after Fertilization in Urechis Caupo Eggs despite Inhibition of Protein Synthesis

The question of whether proteins necessary for cleavage are already present in unfertilized eggs or whether they are synthesized after fertilization has interested embryologists for a number of years. In 1959, Went (11) published immunological evidence for the presence in unfertilized sea urchin eggs of proteins also associated with partially purified mitotic apparatuses. Recently, Borisy and T...

PRC1 is a microtubule binding and bundling protein essential to maintain the mitotic spindle midzone

Midzone microtubules of mammalian cells play an essential role in the induction of cell cleavage, serving as a platform for a number of proteins that play a part in cytokinesis. We demonstrate that PRC1, a mitotic spindle-associated Cdk substrate that is essential to cell cleavage, is a microtubule binding and bundling protein both in vivo and in vitro. Overexpression of PRC1 extensively bundle...

A spindle-independent cleavage furrow positioning pathway

The mitotic spindle determines the cleavage furrow site during metazoan cell division, but whether other mechanisms exist remains unknown. Here we identify a spindle-independent mechanism for cleavage furrow positioning in Drosophila neuroblasts. We show that early and late furrow proteins (Pavarotti, Anillin, and Myosin) are localized to the neuroblast basal cortex at anaphase onset by a Pins ...

Cytokinesis in the C. elegans embryo: regulating contractile forces and a late role for the central spindle.

Genetic and molecular studies in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans have identified multiple essential pathways that regulate and execute cytokinesis in early embryonic cells. These pathways influence both the microfilament cytoskeleton and the microtubule cytoskeleton. Microfilaments are enriched throughout the cell cortex at all times during the cell cycle in embryonic cells. Cortical microf...
